  1. Ant Financial is going public. Ant Group, led by Chinese billionaire Jack Ma, will raise $34.5 billion in a dual public offering in Shanghai and Hong Kong, per CNBC.

  2. Facebook is getting into cloud gaming. The social network unveiled five free-to-play titles across its apps, though the games won't be available on iOS thanks to an ongoing feud with Apple.

  3. Facebook is tired of warring with Apple. The company said Apple's refusal to permit in-app games was "frustrating."

  4. A surveillance startup is under fire over internal harassment. Employees at Verkada accessed the company's facial recognition system to take photos of women colleagues and make sexually explicit jokes, per Motherboard.

  5. SAP cut its profit outlook. It triggered a stock selloff that also turned the spotlight on demand in the enterprise software market.

  6. A former Facebook moderator warned of election violence. Viana Ferguson, a former Facebook content moderator, said there would "definitely" be calls for violence after the election, regardless of the winner.

  7. Twitter is planning to stop election misinformation. The social media giant said it would begin placing messages at the top of users' feeds to pre-emptively debunk false information about voting by mail and election results, per NBC.

  8. Tech giants avoid tax. ActionAid estimates that poorer countries are missing out on up to $2.8 billion in tax revenue that could be used to tackle the pandemic from companies like Google, Facebook and Microsoft.

  9. Vinted acquired United Wardrobe. European secondhand fashion unicorn Vinted exclusively confirmed its acquisition of smaller Dutch challenger United Wardrobe for an undisclosed amount. 

  10. Buzzy fintech PrimaryBid raises funding. The startup raised a $50 million Series B in a round led by OMERS Ventures to democratize stock market access for retail investors.

  7. Exclusive: The UK government awarded health startup Thriva $80 million to help scale up COVID-19 testing. Thriva has been enlisted to provide an "end-to-end serology testing service". 
  8. Alphabet's moonshot lab is talking about its mistakes. Among the company's list of failed projects was a lip-reading computer interface.
  9. HBO and Channing Tatum are developing a new show about Elon Musk. The series will follow the early days of SpaceX, including the launch of its first rocket into orbit, and is based on Musk's biography, written by Ashlee Vance.
  10. SoftBank ploughed $215 million into ed-tech startup Kahoot. The firm is already backed by a host of major players, including Disney and Microsoft.

  1. Facebook banned Holocaust-denial content after allowing it for years. The company has faced criticism for more than a decade over its refusal to moderate anti-Semitic content.
  2. New research revealed misinformation on Facebook is three times more popular than it was during the 2016 election. Engagement posts from misleading websites has spiked by 242 percent from Q3 of 2016 to Q3 of 2020, according to a new report from German Marshall Fund Digital.
  3. Microsoft said it thwarted a sprawling network of bots that could have been used to target election infrastructure. The company disrupted servers that were used to run Trickbot, a notorious botnet that has been used to deploy ransomware.
  4. Wisconsin denied Apple's biggest supplier a huge tax break after the company failed to build a factory that promised to bring thousands of jobs to the state. Foxconn made a deal with the state in 2017 to build a facility that would produce large-screen TV displays and said it would create 13,000 jobs.
  5. NFL superstar Malcolm Jenkins created a venture capital fund focused on empowering black founders and investors. Broad Street Ventures has already made investments in big-name startups like Airbnb and Epic Games, but the long-term goal is to invest in Black and brown businesses that have been traditionally neglected by the VC industry.
  6. YouTube's CEO won't commit to kicking QAnon off the platform despite Facebook banning the conspiracy-theory movement last week. Susan Wojcicki said YouTube has already removed "hundreds of thousands" of QAnon videos and made changes to its recommendations tool.
  7. A VC firm created by Serena Williams has quietly removed any mention of Coinbase from its website, even though it invested in 2018. Coinbase is entangled in controversy after CEO Brian Armstrong wrote a memo telling employees to leave their politics and social causes at the door.
  8. An app that allowed people in China to skirt the nation's internet ban to use Facebook and Google launched last week — then it disappeared. The Tuber app, backed by a subsidiary of China-based Qihoo 360, launched last week.
  9. EU lawmakers are reportedly writing a 'hit list' of Big Tech companies to rein in the power of Silicon Valley.The list will have up to 20 companies on it, and is likely to include big players such as Facebook and Apple, sources said.
  10. TikTok challenger Triller is reportedly exploring an IPO as questions swirl over its user numbers. Reuters reported Sunday that Triller was in talks with investment bank Farvahar Partners about a potential merger and IPO.

  1. A judge ruled Apple doesn't have to bring Epic Games' 'Fortnite' back to the iPhone App Store. Epic sued Apple in August over allegations of anticompetitive behavior.
  2. 60 employees voluntarily resigned from Coinbase over its new 'apolitical' policy. Tensions came to a head in a company-wide meeting when employees demanded CEO Brian Armstrong say the words "Black lives matter". 
  3. Peloton removed QAnon hashtags from its platform as tech companies continued to grapple with the conspiracy theory movement. "Peloton was built on community, inclusivity, and being the best version of yourself," a spokesperson said.
  4. Leaked audio revealed Google CEO Sundar Pichai saying he plans to expand 'hub' offices for a more flexible working future. Pichai said Google would expand the number of offices it considers "hubs" so that Googlers will have "more choice in their lives."
  5. Strict Facebook NDAs reveal how the company bars some of its ad agencies from speaking about it – and even confirming public information. The broad language shows how Facebook wields its massive power over the ad industry.
  6. Jeff Bezos has bet on a self-driving startup run by former heads of Google, Tesla, and Uber's AV projects. Mark Norman, a partner at Fraser McCombs Capital, said he has "deep respect" for the Aurora team.
  7. Twilio is reportedly getting ready to acquire data startup Segment for $3.2 billion. Segment was last valued at $1.5 billion in an April 2019 funding round, and counts Accel, Y Combinator, and Alphabet's GV (formerly Google Ventures) among its investors.
  8. An Arm president said the chip design company's clients shouldn't worry about the $40 billion Nvidia acquisition. "We're going to essentially ensure that everything that's worked for Arm for 30 years is going to stay the same."
  9. Priscilla Chan said she's proud of how Mark Zuckerberg has handled backlash over Facebook's policing of misinformation. The comment comes as Facebook and other social media platforms gear up for the election and crack down on the spread of misleading and false information.
  10. Tanium, the fast-growing cybersecurity startup backed by Salesforce Ventures, raised $150 million in new funding that brings its valuation over $9 billion. Besides Salesforce Ventures, Tanium is also backed by firms including Andreessen Horowitz and TPG.
